Begin with a convenient hotel pickup in Luang Prabang and transfer to the pier, where you’ll board a traditional Lao boat (Shompoo Cruise). Along the way, explore remote riverside villages and immerse yourself in the vibrant local culture. On the following morning, visit Ban Muang village, famous for its traditional Lao whisky, and discover the Pak Ou Caves, home to thousands of Buddha statues. After an overnight stay in the charming town of Pakbeng, continue to Huay Xai, where you will cross the border into Thailand and conclude your remarkable adventure in Chiang Rai.

Program details
This tour starts in Luang Prabang, Laos.
Day 1: Luang Prabang to Pakbeng
06:30 – 06:45 AM – Begin your journey with a convenient pickup by shared Air-conditioned van.
07:00 AM – Depart from Luang Prabang aboard the Shompoo Cruise, sailing upstream on the peaceful Mekong River toward Pakbeng. Enjoy a delicious continental breakfast served on board.
Morning Excursion – Explore the mystical Pak Ou Caves (Tham Ting), home to more than 2,000 Buddha statues. This sacred site is an important pilgrimage destination for the Lao people.
Lunch – Savor a traditional Lao lunch set prepared fresh on the boat.
Afternoon Activity – Learn about the diverse ethnic groups of Laos during an engaging presentation by your knowledgeable English-speaking guide.
Evening Arrival – Arrive in Pakbeng before sunset and check in for your overnight stay (accommodation not included).
From November to February, it can get cold during the cruise,do not forget to bring a jacket.
Day 2: Pakbeng to Huay Xai
07:00 AM – Board the boat for an early departure. Please ask your hotel in Pakbeng to prepare a takeaway breakfast box for you to enjoy on board.
Morning Demonstration – Watch an engaging demonstration by our guide and chef on how to prepare traditional Lao desserts and local drinks, which you’ll get to taste in the afternoon.
Late Morning Excursion – Visit the charming Kamu Village (Ban Kaeng Lae), home to around 70 families. Discover the authentic rural lifestyle in this remote area.
Lunch – Enjoy another delicious set of traditional Lao dishes served on board.
Afternoon Treats – Savor the homemade desserts and drinks prepared by our team and fellow travelers.
4:30 PM – Arrive at Huay Xai pier. You may choose to continue your journey into Thailand on the same day.
5:00 PM – After arriving at Huay Xai pier, we will arrange local transportation to take you to the Laos Immigration checkpoint. The transfer takes approximately 30 minutes.
End of Service
Note:
After completing immigration procedures, you will board a bus to cross the 4th Thai-Lao Friendship Bridge. (Approx. 20 minutes) 6:30 PM – If everything proceeds on schedule, once you have cleared Thai immigration, you have two options: 1. Stay in Chiang Khong:
This border town in Thailand offers convenient accommodation for an overnight stay before you continue to your next destination the following day.
Transportation from the border to Chiang Khong town is available. You will find a ticket counter right in front of the exit where you can purchase your ticket on your own:

Experience the vibrant atmosphere of Chiang Rai city by taking a private taxi. The journey from the Chiang Khong border to downtown Chiang Rai takes approximately 2 hours.

Please be informed that due to current border regulations between Thailand and Laos, travelers holding passports from the following countries are not permitted to cross the border at Chiang Khong – Huay Xai checkpoint: Israel, Philippines, Türkiye, and Indonesia. Therefore, travelers with passports from these countries cannot join this tour from Thailand to Laos. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your kind understanding.

You’ll get a full refund if you cancel at least 7 days prior to the travel date.
